From cash-only to cards accepted

From the time Natural Wellness opened in 2019 to the Spring of 2024, all locations operated on a cash-only basis.

Cash-only dispensaries spend approximately four hours per day reconciling and documenting transactions, and Natural Wellness was among these retailers before they switched to Flowhub Pay in 2024.

Add in the pressure of reporting accurately for state compliance, and cash management quickly becomes the most time-consuming part of a dispensary operator’s day.

Beyond the headache of operating an all-cash business, cash transactions leave little room for nuance. Opportunities to add more items to a customer’s cart at the register are few and far between, as customers don’t want to take the journey back to the ATMs, which are often located off the sales floor.

“I noticed that with cash if customers went over their amount at the register, they wouldn’t go back to the ATM and get more money. They’d just put an item back,” said Kevin. “That obviously reduces our overall sales volume. They don’t want to pay another $3.50 ATM fee.”

Kevin highlighted Flowhub Pay's accessibility and cited his understanding of the customer’s need for convenience. “The preferred choice is usually debit or credit, right?”

"It draws more clientele once customers understand that you have a debit option because it’s just easy. Plus, the budtenders are happy with it because it has the tip lines for customers, and I’ve noticed it’s giving them bigger tips.”
